Question:
My dad's 2007 Subara got hit in the parking lot. He did not know who did it, called the police, and got a report. Damage was estimated at around $2000 by the officer in the report. His insurance company will send someone to estimate the car and issue a check to fix it. The question is if he goes into Subaru dealer and get an estimate, but will not have the car fixed there. Will this void the factory warranty? Because he has a buddy who is a body specialist, and will definitely do a much better job for much less. Thanks much.

dealer doesnt have to fix it...its up to the insurance people...some send check to body shop some send it to you...talk to them. with a car that new u may want to use genuine subaru parts rather than crappy generic parts. The fact is, you should'nt be worry about this, it is the insurance co.'s job. It should not void the waranty if the destinated shop uses genuine parts of Subaru. Waranty wise, The dealer has the right to void the waranty if they found other none OEM branded stuffes on the vehicle.
i.e. intake was damaged, and you replaced with some sorta AEM intake, then you voided the waranty on the intake.
If the shop uses the genuine part of the the vehicle, then the dealer will assume they dont know the car was fixed before.
