The TDI diesel is absolutely the superior choice.

I can't imagine anyone outside of the United States especially, would consider the petrol engine instead.

Why does my "check gauges" light keep flashing in my 89 S10? The gauges all read normal.?

What on earth for? So you can have a spark ignition system to maintain? So you can get half the fuel economy? So you can have an engine that will last about half as long?

thoughts on H to B conversion kits? faster than k swaps?

With what you pay for petrol overseas, it's an easy decision. Diesels hold their resale value better because people KNOW they last. Diesels have more driveable torque and deliver their power at low RPM's where you can put it to better use. Better durability, longevitiy and vastly better fuel economy. Modern direct injection diesels like the TDI Passat are scarcely louder than petrol engines, especially at highway speeds!

can i pull a smalll enclosed trailer with my honda civic?and it is it a good idea too?

The diesel requires NO spark plugs or plug wires or any kind of ignition system maintainence of any type. The glow plugs will last at least 100,000 miles. The maintance will be cheaper, filling it with fuel will be cheaper. It's an easy decision made even easier if you test drive an excellent TDI motor and see how well it drives.

I have a 94 Dodge Caravan that once it gets to 20mph it won't shift is this the transmission or vac. hose?

I only wish we had more diesel choices here in the United States instead of the thirsty V6 petrol motors that rarely feel as powerful as advertised and the wimpish petrol 4 cylinders that either have no torque or drink fuel like crazy.

love it. Its pretty good on gas, has not too bad power and is way more comfy than the jetta.

How easy is it to change the clutch on a Rover 400, 2 litre turbo diesel 1998 model?

compared to your alfa, it wont be too bad. I do highly suggest the diesel (i dont know what all versions of it you get down there). Theyre more reliable and get quite a bit better mileage. I personally would go with something made by either lexus or toyota (camry or carolla or ES300 or similar). Theyre durable, cheap, good on gas, easy to find, and overall great cars. Their main downside is that theyre just not very exciting.

The car itself is not so bad. I suggest you get petrol and not diesel as diesel cars are bit loud. Mileage and performance is good.

I'm your man. I've sold VW for 4 years and I own a Passat and have owned a Touareg. I love both. If you are talking Pre owned go Certified at a VW dealer. You get a rate as low as 2.9% and a 2yr bumper to bumper on us.

What can i do to make my car faster?

The TDI is nice but pricey. Actually I recommend the gas engine 1.8t since the TDI is only 10 mpg better and will cost you usually about 7k more than a gas powered sibling. The V6 is underpowered and consumes too much fuel in the old body B5 Passat (99-05) But the saftey and reliability is great. Though you can find a good CPO for about 15k which is a GLX '02.

Okay not sure between the 07 vw jetta or the scion tc. I am 23. Please help me decide...?

I have 3 young kids and I feel better with them in the Passat than I do in My 7 seater 4X4 Durango. Its a great family car. Side airbags and ABS are standard as is ASR or ESP traction control. You could also put thought into a new Jetta 2.5, as its now the same size as the old Passat was.

Honda Del Sol?

If you are looking for a new 2007, try to find an 06, as I can take off about 4 grand. If not, the 07 will be closer to sticker, but well worth it. Comes in a 2.0T giving 207 HP or a 281 HP 3.6L V6, both with a DSG 6 speed tranny. Either is great but the Turbo is all you need. No TDI for 2007, will return as a joint venture with Mercedes BlueTech in 2008.

Passat is the ONLY car EVER to score a PERFECT score on a IIHS crash test. The only one. Resale is the BEST of any non luxury maker, including Toyota or Honda. Rated #1 family sedan by JD power for 7 years running. In summary, buy it.... Fast!!
