Whining sound when stopping in my 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo?

Question:
When I come to a stop in my 1997 Monte Carlo, it makes a weird whining, almost siren-like sound. It is NOT the brakes. The sound is coming from under and towards the back of the car. My husband thinks it may be the fuel pump. Anyone else every have this problem with their car?

Answers:

Attention subaru master mechanics...Blown Head Gasket Question?

I own a shop, and work on all kinds of vehicles. When you are stopping all the fuel goes to the front of the tank, and causes the pump to suck air, thus making it scream. This is also a good indication that your pump is going out, so your husband is dead on when he says it may be the fuel pump.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!
