Does a chip really work??

Question:
I am talking about the ones on ebay, I already have a typhoon intake and dual flowmaster exhaust on my 04 dodge neon. They say they are not chips, but resistors, can a resistor hurt anything? The reason I am asking is I cannot find anymore performance mods for my car, not even at jcw sport compact. So what should I do on buying the resistor? Should I or not? Also if anybody has links for parts on my car that will be great! Thanx in advance!!!

The resistor does indeed fool the computer by sending a different ohm reading. It will also make your check engine light come on...and not go off! This mod is a cheap and easy one, but not worth the potential issues. The next performance mod to do is to replace the Mass Airflow Sensor. It is more expensive than the resistor, but has a better effect without screwing up the computer or sensor data. The gains average around 20-30 horsepower (granatelli motorsports Mass Airflow Sensor).

Being that you are dealing with a neon, and minimal displacement, try saving some money for the higher end mods instead of the e-bay scams. P.S> Those resistors cost $1 at Radio Shack.don't waste the money on shipping and handling thru the e-bay seller!!

The resistor works by sending a different Ohm reading to the computer to trick it on the outside temperature. By doing this, the computer will compensate timing and fuel curve to improve performance.
