So let me get this straight, you have straight pipes and you want it louder? The only way I can think of it to put on some headers. If you do not have smog laws where you are, ditch the catalytic converters, or get them hollowed out. This is highly illegal for any pollution controlled areas, so check local laws first. Yes glasspacks are mufflers, but they cut out the higher pitched raspy sounds and let the lower growly sounds through. I have glasspacked mufflers on my 69 F-100 with a 390 in it, and it sounds really low and mellow until you give it some throttle, then it just sounds plain mean. Plus I love the 'blub, blub blub' when I downshift.Will Mazda make automatic version of 3speed next year? Do you think power seats will be added?

You can try putting Flowmaster series 40 mufflers on to give it deeper sound but be warned these are loud. also you could go 1/4 or 1/2 inch bigger exhaust pipes from the y pipe back and put a Meg exhaust tip on the end

you'll get tired of the obnoxious noise sometime. straight pipes only would hinder the performance of the engine. the only point in making a truck louder is to get attention, whether teenagers will point at your truck and think it's cool, or the average person will be annoyed to death. i personally think it's a shame to destroy the exhaust system on such a nice truck. louder does not mean better, nor does bigger.The dome light on my 1997 Saturn SL1 doesn't automatically shut off. now if you want to increase low end torque, horsepower and fuel mileage, i would reccomend a single exhaust with a Flowmaster; the Super 40 series puts out the most noise. with the Flowmaster, you have to make sure the pipes are the right size in order for it to work right. do a catback system, cut the system off from behind the catalytic converter and connect a 3" headpipe. connect the headpipe to the Flowmaster, and finish it with a 2.5" tailpipe. the downsizing of the headpipe would ensure the right pressure for the Flowmaster to allow somewhat of a funnelling action to assist the engine in getting the exhaust out.
I don't know which state you live in but in NYS. Cars and trucks are required to be "tubed" if they are 1998 or newer upon yearly inspection. If you have bucks to spend, go I 7/8 tube headers to two medium collectors as possible. Then to dual large converters. to straight pipes with a 90 degree balance tube between the straight pipes. Continue to an X center connector back out to dual pipes. You want loud, go to Bicknell Racing Parts, Speedway Motors, Day Motor sports, Capital Warehouse Inc or Behrents Performance Warehouse There all monster bore oval track racing muffler suppliers as well as other hard core parts.

Why on earth do you want straight pipes on any street driven vehicle? Just to p*ss off the neighbors and draw attention to yourself? Real car guys, I'm talking about the guys that truly enjoy automobiles, hate what you are trying to accomplish here. It's a pick-up truck for crying out loud...not a funny car!! You want a great sounding truck? Go to your local muffler shop and tell him to put on a glass-pac muffler with those duals and enjoy a nice mellow, deep tone that won't draw attention to yourself. first off ditch the y pipe, have a local exhaust shop run true duals from the manifolds back put two high performance catylitic converters on it with flowmaster 2 1/2 dual in dual out muffler this will equal out your exhaust preasures and give you the most performance....i have an 02 2500hd with a vortec 8100 and i have the stock dual set up into a magnaflow high performance 3 inch dual in dual outmuffler with 4" tips and i noticed tremendous gains my whole system is done in 3" duals from the maniolds back with two performance cats...More Questions & Answers ...
