2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overheating?

Question:
It started when the fan blew up and we replaced it with an aftermarket fan for a couple of weeks, then took it to Jeep and had a "jeep fan" installed, shroud and thermostat replaced. In the meantime there is a recall for the exploding fan problem which Chrysler refuses to pay due to Jeep telling them the problem was the aftermarket fan, they just forgot to mention why we put an after market fan in, so Chrysler is not going to reimburse. On a recent 13 hour trip that turned into a 24 hour trip our Jeep overheated and we had it towed to the closes service station where they found nothing wrong with it so we took off again and not all the time but out of the blue the Jeep overheated while we were driving and most times temperature went down when we stopped, even with the engine running. So we took it back to Jeep and they replaced the thermostat. On the way home it overheated again, we pulled over and shut the engine off to let it cool. Once we started it was fine so we took off again and it overheated as long as we were driving but temperature keeps coming down when we come to a stop. So we just replaced the thermostat again and flushed the radiator and it's still not solved. As we took it for a test drive it overheated and the hoses were hard as a rock. After letting it cool down we started to drive home and it was overheating again but when we pulled into the driveway the temperature went down to normal and the hoses were soft. Jeep can't explain the problem and we don't know where to go from here. Hope somebody out there can solve this mistery and maybe also give us a lead on how to get reimbursed for the fan explosion recall Chrysler is refusing to pay.

The new Lincoln model, MKZ; what does the MKZ stand for?

may be the water pump, my friends car seemed fine but kept overheating, we added an extra fan and it still overheated. turns out that the water pump blades disintegrated over time, there was little to no water flow.

Where do i fill or top up the power steering fluid in a 1992 BMW 325i ?

Check and see if the lower radiator hose is sucking closed when you give the engine gas.Watch the hose while someone gives it the gas. Most lower suction hoses have a spring inside to keep this from happening.Iv'e seen them deteriorate and break up.

what is cv formet?

We have two possibilities here, the belt will go on two ways and still fit also the water pump turns counter clockwise unlike most cars which turn clockwise, another scenerio could be a headgasket that would explain the hoses been rock hard and temp going down at idle, try leaving the rad cap on the first notch and fill it up to top of rad go for a drive not to fast watch the temp gauge,it will go up slightly above normal because it will not be pressureized but if it stablizers and does not boil over the head gasket maybe the problem, you did not say if you added coolant to rad at any time.

Iam not sure if you have an *air dam below the radiator. On some cars if they fall off the car overheats especially in hilly areas.Make sure your EGR is working ,as* closed EGR can cause a lean condition. Is the* radiator pressure cap the correct one?Is it possible you could have an* air leak at the intake manifold.Your other answers will probably prove Right.I have just added to what may contribute to the problem.

H22 Turbo Kit Questions?

i had the same problem in my jeep, except my fan did not blow up. i was coming home from a week long trip and with in 45 min of coming home my car over heated, and so i turned around and on the way back i didn't have a problem with it over heating. I still took it to a shop and they told me the thermostat probably was just sticking and so i had a new, higher quality one put in. try and replacing the thermostat again with the highest quality one you can find and it hopefully will fix the problem. and for the reimbursing from Chrysler, i guess tell them what happened, and show them the bill if you took it to a shop. and hopefully it will be enough proof from them, and if they don't and you really want the money back bad. Take them to court and try to get it that way. Its much more of a hassle but if you want the money back bad enough you do what you gotta do. oh and also try flushing out your coolant system too, there could be air pockets in the water tubes.
