Will a "short swingaxel" trans swap for a "long swingaxel" Trans?

Question:
I am looking to take the "long swingaxel" trans that I had custom built for my '68 Ghia, and trade it into a '63 Ghia Is this just a R and R job, or do I need special adapters?.

I believe the two swingaxels should swap easy enough. The only problem you might have as far as length goes is the different brake drums. I think the splines on the earlier drums were a little bit deeper. But maybe you can use the same drums.
