Question:
I'm planning to purchase a car in the next few weeks. On the top of my list I have Mazda3 (4 door and automatic) i Touring or s Sport and Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT Limited Edition Sedan. I know they're not exactly in the same class of cars but which one would be a better deal? I've heard that Subaru makes quality cars so I would be spending about $22,500 for it and have a quality car. As for Mazda3 I would spend about $19,500 but the quality wouldn't be as good. I'm leaning towards Mazda3 but is it really worth that $19,500?

My car keeps stalling after the temp. gauge reaches 190 what can be the problem?
I think some of it depends on where you're going to be and what you're going to be doing. If you live and drive in an area where it rains or snows a lot, I would say without question get the Subaru. All-wheel drive is the single greatest safety feature you can have on any car and no one does awd better than Subaru or Audi. AWD is standard on all Subaru cars. Also the engine configuration on Subarus make them easier to repair, maintain, etc. If you like skiing or if you drive through a lot of rain, the choice is easy. A greater percentage of Subarus are owned for more than 10 years than any other brand, and Subaru has a winning reputation because of repeat buyers and bulletproof engineering. Is my speedometer sensor going out on my 91 Honda Accord?
However, the Mazda3 is an impressive machine. When Mazda introduced the 6 a few years back, a lot of people had imagined it was the beginning of a resurgence for Mazda which had suffered from lackluster performance in the years preceding. BUT, as much as I hate to follow the masses... if quality is really what you're looking for... shouldn't you be shopping for a Toyota?
Since that's not what you're asking, I will just say that my vote goes to the Sube. Best of luck!

The question you should be asking yourself is why spend $19,500 on crap. The Mazda3 sucks big time. Weak engine, horrible looks on the outside (I think the hatch looks better, more proportioned), crap quality on the inside, and sketchy reliability.I have a 96 Mazda 626 that keeps sputtering when I excelerate. How do I fix it?
I'd say if you're looking for a driver's car, to look more so at the Legacy because you'll not only get AWD but a better quality and reliability as others have said.
What is the stock gear ratio in a standard base 1991 Jeep Wrangler?
Another car to consider if you got the cash, '07 VW GLI. It's the equivalent of the '07 VW GTI but it has 4 doors and a huge trunk. And before you say it, the difference in performance is not noticable. So I'd highly recommend test driving that. Superb quality interior and loaded with tons of standard features that you'll enjoy. Plus the 2.0T engine is phenomal and the optional DSG is one of the best transmissions on the planet.
Do yourself a favor and don't settle for the Mazda3.
