I would say this is a pretty reliable car. Compared to most 90s cars, this has very few problems.
But remember, if this is a high milage car, your going to be replacing everyone of those things listed if not done by the current owner.

Are you serious? Ford has never been known to be reliable, or any car built in the USA for that matter, ya gotta get a Honda or Toyota, (not the ones built over here) to have reliability. FORD stands for FOUND ON ROAD DEAD, or FIX OR REPAIR DAILY. I wonder why they call it an escort? It's a crappy car, but you could do worse.Screw gsp! He is probably one of those guys running around in his momma's honda thinking it's fast because he beat some guy on a riding lawnmower!( Had One Never Did Again) What a sellout. I had a 90 Escort and it was a great car, the only prob I had was the transmission. But when your trying to race everything in sight like me when I was young it's only logical, something is going to give. If it is a well maintained car it's a great buy, but regardless you will have the normal wear and tear items that will need to be replaced from time to time, good luck my friend!

My daughter has a 93 Escort wagon and it's a great little car. My brother bought it used for $500 and drove it for several years. Then he gave it to her. We spent a couple hundred on it and it runs fine. It has well over 200,000 miles on it and is still probably one of our more reliable cars (out of 9 total). Plus, it gets great gas mileage! None of our Fords have ever left us stranded--unlike our GM which has several times.
I have a 95 4dr lx. Bought it used with 130,000 miles for $795. No tune up on it yet getting 20 to 25 mpg.

Yes they are good cars, The first thing I would do is replace the water pump and timing belt, the pump is ran off the timing belt and will leave you stranded. It is a good preventive maintenance thing to do. And replace the belt every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. They are good cars and work on them for years.
