I have had starting, and cutting out, problems with my A class. I think i have a faulty fuel guage. In the manual it says that there is a reserve tank. How does this work? Help please?

the reserved tank should kick in when your gas empties in your primary tank. if you run out of gas the reserve tank symbol (see manual) should light up in your gauges to indicate that the car is running on reserve. if this is not the case you should bring your car to a qualified mechanic.Dashboard warning light is on. There is not a separate tank. Inside the fuel tank there is a somewhat walled in area that is lower than the rest of the tank, the fuel volume of this area holds 6 liters and is often referred to as the reserve tank. All newer Mercedes use electric fuel pumps, the fuel is what cools the pump, the wall inside the tank are made to reduce fuel splash and to channel fuel to the fuel pump.
Depending on what A class you have you may have 2 fuel pumps, a pusher and a puller pump. Often on Mercedes this will cause problems and cause the car to starve out. The best thing to do would be to have a certified Mercedes mechanic check out the fuel delivery system of your A class. If you have a 2 pump system one pump may have difficulty in pushing fuel through the other pump.
Mercedes often have 2 pumps for the high performance aspects of autobahn driving.
