To understand how to drive a manual (non automatic clutch IE steptronic), theres different means of explanation.
For a beginner (performance isnt really an issue, you just want to learn out to drive a manual), you learn when to shift up or down, when your car is no longer gaining momentum, if your car feels sluggish in response to the gas peda, or your rpms are very high, 5000+.
you should only be in first gear, when you come to a complete stop, you never shift into first gear when your driving.
Say your coming up to an intersection and you want to make a right hand turn, you press in the clutch, downshift to second gear, about half way through the turn, you let off the clutch while pressing the throttle.
If youre at a stop, and you have the car in the wrong gear, as you press the gas while letting off the clutch, your car will feel like its underwater, the engine will sound very bogged down, and your going to accelerate very slowly.
to know when you need to upshift, your car will no longer go any faster or the rpms are very high. So if the speed limit is 65, and your car isnt going any faster then 35, you need to upshift. if your not racing, and your rpms are about 5000 (vast difference depending on the car, 4-5000 is probably the norm for everyday driving), you need to upshift.

Hi i have a nissan 300zx turbo 1990 only high beem comes on when lights are turned on no front or rear at all?

BTW, steptronic is not manual transmission, it is just semi-automatic which allows you to shift gear manually (without the clutch) when you move your gear selector to the left (from D-position) then you can choose to move up (-) or down (+) through the gear shift. The gear selector will show up on the display as M1, M2, etc... It's easy to learn and you can learn that from your car's manual too:)

What do you think about the 1994 chevy lumina 3.1 L Engine?

to use the steptronic manual feature, move the shift lever to "S" position which is left of the "D" position. This puts you in "sports" mode which makes the automatic shift at higher revs. Then tapping the shifter towards (+) will up shift and to (-) will down shift. That puts you in manual mode. That's it! On your gauge cluster, you will see M1 thru M5 for 1st through 5th gear.

as the previous responder mentioned, the steptronic is not a real manual transmission. it's an automatic with manual electronic gear control.

You shift up depending on how much acceleration you want. I usually use the flick of the wrist to move between gears.
