Just got 20inch rims on my 06 Altima and they are rubbing in the rear what do I do?

Car is automatic gearbox with Steptronic -what duz it mean?

The rubbing means you have a high offset wheel (much more than your stockers). Get some 5mm or 10mm spacers to flush them outward towards the fender. You can buy these spacers at http://www.tirerack.com and they vary in prices depending on the thickness of the spacer you're getting. Check the offset of your 20" wheels if they're more than 40mm you should get spacers (your ideal offset should be 38-40mm). You should also have 245/30/20 series tires...if not, get them changed ASAP. If your wheels are too low an offset (less than 30mm), you're SOL if you don't roll your fenders or change the wheels.

Ok, you car experts, is there a ...?

If the tires are rubbing when you are just driving down the road, I suggest getting 18inch rims. Now, if they rub when the car bounces over bumps, pot holes and so on. Than I suggested getting lifters for your vehicles rear end.

How much can it take?

Put taller bump stops, taller springs and better shocks to fix it right (because you don't have much fender to roll on that car). Or you can do the cheap but dangerous way and install spring height extenders on the rear springs and adjust them all the way up to increase the suspension travel (then back off a little to make the car look even). It works but at your own risk !!
