so if you think this right let me know cause dmv is telling it's wrong and it is a manual trans 3 speed with od wich makes it a 4 speed and it is 4x4. but every one tells me it's not orig, cause they did not make 71 f-100 in 4x4 sticks? have no clue i just want to put a 400 out of a 78 t- bird in it so it has power ...help please

The 400 will need a bell housing from a 351m,400m, or 460 motor . Rebuild the 390 ,W/ 10:1 compression,4v , .500 cam. it can have a lot more torque and power than the 400M and you already have ALL the parts or stroke the 390 with a 428 crank to make a 410 like the 66-67 mercurys.

Yea the vin number is a correct vin but not for what your describing. The F10 would be a 4 x2 not a 4x4. Have you looked at the vin on the vehicle and compaired it to the title? Yes Ford did in deed make a F 100 4x4 with a stick. They still do. Now its a f150 though. What engine is in it now? The 400 out of the bird will change everything anyway because nothing you have will match up except the body. Trans , transfer case etc will need to be changed if they are not from the same engine class Ie 351 400. 302/460/300 use different stuff. The DMV should just registar the vehicle with what you have unless the vin plate on the vehicle does not match the title which is another issue all together
