Some possibilities: i would recheck the timing as well as the distributor is the distributor firmly in place or is the clamp somewhat loose? if you replaced the wires are they routed correctly in the proper firing order? you mention gas to the carb but is gas getting through the carb or is maybe something internal clogged? You did say you were getting spark but after 26+ years that ignition coil could be very weak, lasty if i remember right the older Chrysler vehicles had a "resistor" it was a ceramic rectangle with the bimetalic strip openly visible in it usually they were mounted on one side of the firewall in the engine compartment if i recall those went bad as well.

At what age/mileage do E-class show signs of wear?
Those things got the nylon-alum timing gear on the cam. If it has not been changed yet, it may have jumped time because of it.i have a 96 chevy blazer with no heat?
Double check the timing and make sure you are not at the exhaust stroke. Also check the ignition module. I believe it is on the firewall. It sounds as though you have a weak spark problem.A couple of simple tests will determine that. Make sure the spark is a solid blue color on the plugs. I had a similar problem and it was the module for the ignition. I know you changed it but even those can be bad. Also a little trick I did once was to loosen the distributor and keep moving the timing. Crank it with every move. It could be a simple as the timing is off. If it still has the original chain in the vehicle it could have jumped time. By moving distributor while cranking it should try to fire up. If so you may have the plugs on wrong.
