Why are you disconnecting the positive cable? Try disconnecting the negative cable and see what happens. If it shuts off you have a bad alternator or faulty wiring. If it doesn't it is because of the wiring schematic design of the charging system. Good luck.Disco TDi 300, dies at 2000 rpm , very juddery then picks up only to die at 3000rpm WHY ?
i own a repair shop, and it may be a bad ground wire on it that's causing this to happen the alternator will charge it through a small ground source, such as a small axillary wire, but when the cable is disconnected you loose the main source of the travel on the circuit,so it dies on you,try checking all the ground wires on it,i think this will turn out to be whats wrong with it,good luck i hope this helps. Here is a URL and put your vehicle year and model in and see if you can glean some knowledge somewhere. hahaha

Don't remove your battery cable.1996 chrylser cirrus jurks and loses power, please help!?
back away from the car. you never remove a battery cable while the car is running. your alternator may have been good, i doubt it now. when you remove a batt. cable, you create a open in the charging circuit, the alternator will charge at a very high rate until it blows the voltage regulator inside. take the battery into auto zone and get it tested, along with the alternator.More Questions & Answers ...
