Question:
I have a 99' silverado with a 5.3 liter. Two questions.
What is the real driffrence between a stage1 clutch and a stage2?
1. When my truck is in idle there is a noise that comes from the engine that sounds faintly like a ufo in the movies. I am thinking it's an idler pulley about to go south...not for sure.
2. When I start it up in the morning, and take off out of the driveway sometimes I hear a knocking noise, like rods knocking...but when it goes about 100 ft. the noise stops. Is this just because it hasn't gained oil pressure yet and is this normal if the engine does not have time to get pressurized?
What size speakers usually fit in a Jeep Wrangler sound bar?
*My truck has close to 100k miles on it now.

What is the time taken by a car to come to rest, after applying the brakes...?
MALE MUTE IS RIGHT GM SAYS COLD START NOISE IS CONSIDERED NORMAL & WILL NOT CAUSE A PROBLEM. AS FAR AS THE "PULLEY" NOISE THE IDLER PULLEY IS BAD ABOUT "RUNNING OUT" YOU CAN TELL BY SIGHTING BOWN THE BELT,IF IT'S RUNNING STRAGHT TRY REMOVING THE SERP. BELT & SPINNING THE PULLEYS & LISTEN FOR THE NOISE YOUR HEARING1999 f-150 4.6 v8 engine acting strange?
the knocking sound is considered "normal" by GM...my 2000 does the same thing and GM says its normal and is not causing internal damage to my engine...mine has 108000 on it and still runs strong.you are probably correct on the noise. but check your drive belt condition...could be your belt is just slipping and needs replacementu should defenatly get that checked out with a problym like that u are a danger to ur self and others
sounds like you to check your oil pressure ? starting motor and driving off ? could damage motor if oil is low pressure at start up , wait for oil pressure at idle before taking off
There are two belts on Silverados, one runs just the a.c. compressor and one that runs everything esle. Sometimes the belts get "dry" and will make a squeaking noise, kind of an eeiry sound. Just to be sure take the main belt loose from your truck and check the idlers and see if any are loose or make any grinding noises when you turn them by hand. Then if you haven't replaced your belts in this first 100,000 miles do that and I think your problem will be solved.
There is a chirp in the clutch area. everyone says it's a throwout bearing but iv'e replaced that.?
As for the knock I would be looking at your oil pressure gage, to see what it reads while this is going on. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a valve lifter that is hanging up just a bit.
351 Windsor or 351 Cleveland for 96 mustang gt?
i own a repair shop, and a lot of what your hearing might be a timing chain and gear set going bad in it,and they will quieten down a lot once you get going, all Chevy's was real bad to do this ,they used a very soft metal in the gears on these, and at or around 90-100 k on them you should replace these,i have done a lot of them ,and the ones i been getting a lot of here lately have had around a100-125k on them, even a few of them have broke the chain, and when this happens it don't move no more, until its fixed,i been at this a long time, and from experience i have learned if you own a Chevy, replace the chain and gears in it this is probably a lot of what your hearing on it,good luck i hope this helps.Who are the stars of the Chevy commercial?
I have a '79 that used to have that knocking niose and a new set of lifters stopped stopped it. Apparently at least one was sticking.More Questions & Answers ...
