Difference between BMW 520 model 1996 - 2001?

What is the difference in the body from year 1996 till 2001 ?
I can see all are the same . Anything changed and which model is the best suggested to buy ?

I have to start this by saying I'm a bmw fanatic and all these items I've seen modified on the US models.
well, the first thing that you should notice are the headlights. e39 went through some restyling beginning in the year 2001. They added angel eyes, slighly modified the grill, and they changed the rear taillights into the ones with LEDs. In the interior, they added the automated door look system which automatically closes the doors after like 30 secs after you leave. They also removed the ASC (automated stability control) and replaced it with DSC (dynamic stability control). Not a big change. also on the interior they slighly modified the buttons, they are more of higher quality because the earlier ones typically broke apart or became very sticky and got stuck. especially the ones which control temp. Also the alarm system was modified. and on the exterior, the rims were changed.
But like I said , all these are minor modifications, nothing major and nothing technical or anything relating to the engine, transmission.
I wouldn't buy a newer one (2001) . Its practically the same car as 1996. Its a waste of money. And I'm not a big fan of the angel eyes on the e39. I like the more classic look of the e39. But its all about taste. Its your decision.
