OBD 1 is now obselete. OBD2&3 have replaced it.Either of these scanners will do for general fault finding but
you will have to see if you can purchase the relevent soft ware from subaru to read the manufacurer specific codes.
Snap-on tools have a range of scanners but be prepared to
pay upwards of 10,000 for them, if you have a local repco store near you, check out the scanners they have, they start at around 4,500.
why don't you make friends witha mechanic who has one or has access to one, a lot cheeper if you are just diagnosing one car?
most of the auto parts store nearby will usually scan for free, helps them sell parts
