How do i get the rear brake drum off of a 84 toyota camery?
Jeep Freak is right on the money bud. You have turned down a road which has a lot of (money) potholes in it. With the cost of gas rising, you'll regret it soon. That is if you even finish the project. I swapped a 360 into my (new) 95 Jeep. I estimated 4000, and it cost me 10,000. cause I wanted to do it right. I know that what I embarked on was a bit different than your adventure, but these things usually go that way. Double your mental estimate. Aftermarket parts for AMC V8s are expensive. If I were you, I would sell the V8 and build the 258. These are torque monsters. with a weber carb (K552), header, flowmaster muffler, mild cam. you'll have a super strong motor that people will think is a V8 when they hear it! and it'll outperform 90% ofthe jeeps on the road. then you could change the rear gears to 4:11 for more power off the line, and put in Moser solid axles to get rid of that weak link (you'd have to do that with a V8 anyway) and it wont be a gas hog. In any event..good luck, contact me by email if you wanna know more about modifying your Jeep, and where to get quality parts. RobYou will have to change the entire drive line or have them all rebuilt. Chances are the transmission will have to be re-geared for a V-8 from a L6. The rear end may be OK, but have it checked to make sure. I would stick with a Holley 650 or a 750 cfm carb. Headers, Headman or Hooker will be your best bet. MSD ignition will be great as well. If you are going to put that kind of money into it, I would go ahead and make it a fuel injection engine. You will easily spend a $1000.00 bucks minimum for a machine shop to do all of the work. Hope you have a deep pocket for gasoline as well. A 360cid's suck fuel like you wouldn't believe. I have for SJ Jeeps and two of them have L6's and and the other two have 360's. I can see the fuel needle move when I drive, even at below posted limits. Good luck!
