if she has glow plugs dont even think of it.itll blow the intake and heads rite of the block.if its cold and wintery where your at and you can plug your truck in overnite to warm the engine thatll be the best bet.
Isn't as flammable, if that is what you mean...it wasn't meant for that purpose.......................... if you need to use ether to start the vehicle, there is something severely wrong mechanically with it.
Ether is NOT to be used on any diesel that has glow plugs either. You will blow up the engine. Ether was used on old caterpillar engines that relied on the friction heat to start them -which is how diesels work- - they have no spark plugs.
With your truck, I assume you have a glo plug in the system so not a good idea. Perhaps you got an air pocket in the lines and need to bleed it. Find somebody in the know.
yes ether is specifically made to start diesels wd 40 is flammable more so than ether which will either burn the head gskts off off blow the lower end of motor apart if used alot.
Ive seen old mechanics use WD40, even ATF fluid.. in carbs... im quite sure it wont kill it, call a mechanic to be safe.
my 1996 vw polo starts and then cuts out?
WD40 may not do what you want it to. I believe the formula of WD40 was changed a few years back so that it is no longer flammable, because people were using it as a starting fluid. Any fuel source sprayed into the intake may damage your engine, because there is no way to control ignition timing. Do you know if the glow plugs are getting power? Are they good? If it wont start there is something wrong, even if you get it running the problem wont go away, use this as an opportunity to find the problem. If the glow plugs aren't working, it's simple to fix. If it's a fuel delivery problem, even ether or another starting aid isn't going to get it running! If your in a really cold place, I know sometimes the glow plugs just won't do it, and its not exactly handy to plug it in all the time either. WD-40 would be fine to use in your diesel when it needs a little motivation. I use ether all the time when I can't have it plugged in. WD-40 is even less flammable than ether so its a great idea if you are worried about hurting your engine, but want it to start. My advice to you would be to use just a little shot of ether. just a little shot. Thats all it'll need. Everone who tells you that ether will blow your glow plugs and head gaskets out probably has had a bad experience by loading the thing full of ether thinking that thats how much it needs... That or they heard that from someone and thought in their mind that just a little squirt would blow it apart, when actuall the person they heard that from had loaded it full. Ether is handy, and while you run your glow plugs, shoot a teeny shot into the intake and then quick turn it over. Also, try starting after a while of running your glowplugs, but crank it whiile they're still on. That way they are still giving you the heat when the engine is trying to fire. The 7.3 is a tough engine, it'll handle the ether. I know that a lot of diesels including mine have "do not use starting fluids or immediate engine damage may occur" by the intake, but thats just to prevent any average joe from loading the thing full of ether like its an old briggs and stratton because they don't know that all the engine needs is just a little shot. You can go ahead and use just a little and you'll figure out too just how little you need. I hope this helped. I live in Montana and I know how cold it can get, and so here you figure out little tricks and what work, and how to run a diesel in cold weather.
What do you guys think of the audi 2004 a4 1.8t sedan? and what class is the audi a4 compared too?
WD-40 will choke an engine out if sprayed into a carb, it's not combustible.More Questions & Answers ...
