i mechanic for a living,,and if you like 4 runners there good vehicles,,and there about average on gas ,as compared to other vehicles their own size,,some do better than other do,,a lot of this depends on the driver,and your driving habits,,good luck hope this help,s.newer ones like the 2006-2007 have better gas mileage ratings. The older ones are lighter and th little SR5 4cyl gets good gas mileage however not enough power for off roading if you have the manual trany. So pending on what you want to do with it and what you are expecting it is hard to answer this question.

I think the 4runner is over priced and would never buy one some of the mini SUV's they make are cute gas mileage is great but still over priced. You can research the gas mileage on the mfg web site. if you don't need to transport more than 3 to 4 people or have alot of gear to haul around and have no intentions to off roading why waste the money.

Mileage is bad. Unless you need the space and ruggedness of a 4runner you are better off with a car and not an suv.I dont agree, I have a 99 4runner with the 3.4l v6 and a auto trans. and Im getting 22 mpg on average around town. Thats pretty good for an SUV.
