i'm looking for a lift kit for my 2wd ranger. i've found many out there but only big name brands. does anyone know of others that are still good quality but cheaper than the name brand ones.

The Ranger is a very unstable truck to begin with (due to its narrow track and high center of gravity) and this is without a lift kit. Several consumer reporting agencies have confirmed this as well as the government. I would forgo that kit unless you plan installing a roll cage and harnesses as this truck will not survive a rollover well. The quick answer is no. if you want quality you have to pay for it. Besides, is puting your life and everyone elses lives that come within 50 feet of it worth it? I don't think so. Cheap is wrong but you can use coil spring expander's for the front, and either shackles [getto] or blocks for the rear springs [better but alittle hard cause you ll need longer U-bolts]. Even if you spend alot on your lift kit, you'll get the blocks and U-bolts for the back. Every thing I listed can be bought at your local auto parts store, except the U-bolts. You get them at a place that you buy leaf springs at. All should cost you about 50-75 bucks for every thing. And depending on what tools you have should be 3-6 hrs.As they said, you could ghetto it for about $100 but it will ride like it and the tires will love you too (when you are replacing them every 20,000 miles because of alignment issues).
Short of doing a proper suspension lift, Most people used to (some still do but it's fallen out of favor for the suspension lift) is the body lift... Lift the body on blocks. Usually done when you can't lift by suspension anymore... Jury is out considering you are lifting the body for an accident... (the body can shift and come off of the blocks in an accident) but is cheap if you do it yourself.

Far as I know, Fabtech is the only place that makes 2WD Ranger lift kits but I could be wrong. At any rate they aren't cheap, though if you're only looking for 1-2" of lift you might find something more budget minded.
