Question:
I was not smart, I admit it. But I went away for the weekend and left my headlights on in my 97 Jetta, so now of course the battery is dead. Last night I jumped it without a problem. I let it run for about 10 minutes then decided to take it for a ride to grab some food. Sadly, after not driving for awhile, I stalled the engine. The car's emergency lights went on immediately and the red light above the steering wheel started to flash red. I hooked the car back up with jumper cables, but the car wouldn't start. Lights came on, the battery was working. Anyone know if this is some kind of security feature, or have any other ideas as to what might be happening?

the flashing light is your security system activated . that's what happen when the battery 's low or when the battery have been disconnected and reconnect the alarm will activated . after you get the battery charge up if the light flash again when the atttery is connect, just use your key lock and unlock the driver's door ,then you'll be able to start the car . by using the key to unlock the driver's door that will disarm the security system. You should put it on a slow charger over night or take it for a 30-45 min drive to get it back to normal. Sometimes when you drain a battery you can destroy it. So basically if it wont hold a charge you need a new one.
