My son has a 1992 dodge dakota that is backfiring when he starts it in the morning and we need help?

we really need to find out what is going on with his truck because he is really getting a little poed about it happening every morning he has changed the crank shaft censor the EGR valve already worked fine for awhile now it's acting up again and we seriously need help to figure out whats going on.Thanks

for some reason some dodge pick up's are famous for having a cracked distributor cap after a certain amount of miles if they haven't been changed. i don't know if its a flaw in the material they use for their caps or what it is but its their curse. anyway, the best thing is to replace the cap with a new one and while you are at it you might as well put on a new set of wires and adjust the timing to factory specs. very inexpensive way to make sure your truck runs properly without backfire. good luck.

Check your distributor cap and spark plug wires for moisture in the morning. Dampness or dew on the wires or cap can cause "crossfiring"which will cause backfiring

This could be as bad as an IAC motor not correctly adjusted. This deals with the throttle body and start idle speed or surge issues. I'd check the IAC adjustments, however, it might help to let us know what engine we are dealing with 2.5, 3.9, 5.2 just to varify what parts to look at.

replace the distributor cap - points - plug wires and plugs - if it still backfires then you either need to advance the distributor or retard the distributor - towards the driver to advance - towards the passengerside to retard this should resolve the problem - just went through it with my sons 92 dakota hopefully this will fix it for you as well.
