Attention subaru master mechanics...Blown Head Gasket Question?

Question:
I have a 96 outback with 97,000 miles and a blown head gasket to boot. I have heard from several mechanics that properly done with the latest head gasket revision the engine is possibly good for another 100,000. However, one mechanic has said I needed a new engine because the cast iron sleeves of the aluminum cylinders get loose and melt the aluminum. was this guy smoking crack? What is the verdict on a properly installled head gasket repair?

Answers:

Will my 305 fit in my 87 s10blazer?

Yes it's true about the Head gasket modification and yes the one mechanic is wrong. I used to work as a service adviser at Subaru dealers for many years before my accident and I have seen a few of these especially the 95-99 MY. Once it is repaired properly if there is no other damage it will go for a long time. Keep the maintenance up and it should last another 150,000 miles.

99 ford winstar makes really loud rrrring noise when driving except if turning right.replaced both cv joints?

why would you want a car that only lasted 97,000 miles? id junk it and get a Toyota or Honda you could buy a used one that had 200,000 on it and it would last longer than that Subaru did !

My 2001 Chevy Impala starter problems?

The engine design of a Subaru makes it prone to head gasket failures. Get the new type and keep your fingers crossed.
