Question:
I currently drive a Ford Ranger 2006 XLT and I'm not that happy with it. Its a single cab so there is absolutley NO room! My father got it for me after my sister totaled my car. So question is i am now looking for a SUV and right now I've got my eye on a Saturn VUE...anyone have one? Are they good cars, gas mileage, reliable? Any other suggestions for a good SUV?

Hi Ms. Michelle,Is it possible to get air conditioning fitted to a BMW that has not got air conditioning?
First as a car enthusiast I am sorry and I mourn for your totaled car; I understand very well your frustration concerning the XLT, as for many pick up designs, the ride is more comfortable for your load at the back than for the passengers in the ridiculous cab...

1. DO NOT FALL FOR THE PICK UP AGAIN UNLESS YOU NEED IT:
- I know they are very American, quite good looking, sometimes rather inexpensive, they look tough, but unless you have a real need for a flat loading surface (professional plumber, planning on building your house yourself, etc), just forget it !
What is ur opinion about the 2007 Mazda MX-5 Miata power retractable hard top ?
- Pick ups are made to be loaded: and they behave in a very unsafe way if they aren't; the weight repartition is very unequal when empty (all at the front) and it becomes a dangerous vehicle on the road. Besides you said it yourself the loading space is wasted if you only want to use it as a car...

2. FORGET SATURN AND LOW COST SUVs:

- The VUE is not a very good choice if you ask me (its only advantage is the MPG, but in this car category it is ironic to really want to be economic on this), as are most low cost SUVs.
- As a rule of thumb, You should only consider SUVs starting around $30,000 - $35,000.00 (new); some good models being:
Who conducts VW's consumer research for them in the UK?
- Infiniti fx35
- Ford Expedition
- Chevrolet Tahoe
Once again SUVs are really huge for a purpose, and this can be good for room, but a horrendous choice in traffic, in big cities, and for gas consumption; some people break the bank to buy those because "it makes them feel safe to be in a big vehicle", and resell them at a loss a few months later because of the disadvantages. So unless you cannot cut on the 7 seats (you have many children, you drive around relatives who do not drive themselves, etc), I strongly suggest you to consider a good old car...

These seat 5 people comfortably, have plenty of room in the trunk (I had to literally "dive" in my dad's Grand Prix's trunk to reach the bottom!) and have a very good MPG...
CONCLUSION:
Hello Folks, what about big Transams?
Here it is, the choice is yours, but I think you should bear in mind that big vehicles (trucks, pick ups, suvs) have many costs that can only be offset if you are using their size (big / heavy loads, several passengers, towing capacity...). If not, you will get tired of them (like your XLT) and be begging for a car in a few months; Finally, if you want a good suv you have to pay the price, the low cost models are sometimes very crummy and do not equal a similarly priced good sedan.

VUE's are pieces of crap, horrible electrical system, many things go wrong with them. plus they're made of plastic. ugh. Go to edmunds.com and read the reviews.
Don't buy any American or Asian built vehicles. None of them build good cars or trucks / SUV's. If you can, buy European, they know how to built for quality and safety, as well as good gas mileage.
