Why does it lock up?

Question:
I have a 2004 Honda Civic LX and say I unlock the door with the remote control, then I open the trunk and after a short while all doors have locked up. What's my car's problem? Does you Honda Civic do the same? I don't think this is normal.

Should I buy one of the new Toyota Yaris'?

It is phenomenon call "self arming of the security system". Most new vehicles work on this principle. Some vehicle, like Hyundai, are also equipped with a lights off feature, that will turn the lights off after about 30 seconds if you remove the keys. Another feature on some vehicles are automatic window closing. As soon as the security system is armed, the windows will all close automatically.

A lot of 'new' cars will automatically lock the doors after a certain ammount of time IF you have just unlocked them with the keyless remote. If you unlock the car from the inside, it wont lock the doors after a set time because your keys may still be in there. It's prolly a safety feature...i have a mazda...and thats what my car does

Its a security feature installed by honda (and by many other car companies). If you get out and close the door the automatic lock will trigger if you dont already press the button to lock the car. This feature is for the kind of people who keep forgetting to lock their doors!

Ford Explorer 1997?

It's a security feature. My 2003 Toyota Rav4's doors lock after 1 minute, if you unlock the doors, and don't open the doors. Anyway, that's normal for your Civic to do that.
