Hey, I have a 96 civic sedan (same car), the gas light is designed to come on when there is 1.2 gallons left. Mine will ride on E for quite a while before is comes on. I have driven around 30 miles on E before the light lit up, but when I filled it up,It still had around a gallon in it. The light may work, and it may not, just dont run outta gas waiting for it..lol! Good luck!

Are you sure the low fuel light actually works? Other than that, most automotive fuel gauges are best guess estimates if nothing else. I wouldn't depend on it. If the low fuel light comes on there is typically 2-3 gallons left in the tank, according to manufacturers' documentation..It sounds light you either have a faulty guage or the bulb for your gas light is out.

Look in the owners manual to see how large the tank is. When you fill it up check how many gallons, then subtract from the capacity. That is how much you had left with needle on E.Don't depend on blown light bulb to warn you unless you like to walk.

The gas lights works on a variable resister in the sending unit for the fuel level. If the variable is to wide due to the float not in the correct place for the light to be trigered then it wil not come on. No need for the dealership to look at it they will have you replace the sending unit most likely and that is not necesary unless you have to have your gas light. You have a 11 gallon tank and should be getting 32 mpg so multiply it by 10 to leave yourself a gallon reserve creating 320 to a tank and set your trip odometer each fill. THis also helps to know when you mpg goes down that there is probably a mechanical failure leading to your poor mpg.More Questions & Answers ...
