What's the whistling noise in the engine of my Ford Explorer?

Driving home tonight, I suddenly heard a whistling noise in my engine. I need to know if it's serious. When I bring my SUV to the Ford dealer, they manage to find awful things wrong and charge me a fortune to fix what they say is wrong. This time, I want to try to find out what's wrong before I bring it in. The Explorer is driving perfectly. This whistling sound started very suddenly. Can anyone help me?

Probably a vacuum leak at one of the minor lines. The way you describe it happening "all of a sudden" makes me believe a plug or a hose popped loose. Have them check your vacuum connections.
