Do know why my '97 Nissan Altima automatic transmission is slipping?

Question:
Automatic transmission slips in Drive or Reverse - but not all the time. ATF is clear and red (not burnt). It appears to be an electrical problem.

Look at the shifter cable where it hooks to the transmission. Look up under the drivers side front of the transmission. I bet the cables rubber bushing has slack because it has rotted out batery acid heat and time can do this. Have some one move the shifter engine not running and watch for slack at the lever. The only repair is a new cable. Not being fully in drive or reverse can cause slipping. Notice next time shift into the next lower gear and see if the slipping in drive dissapears.

Go early on a weekday because in the afternoons they're already booked and weekends are generally scheduled for the rookie mechanics. Look at your mileage. Transmissions need attention at 60,000. Things like fluid change and they also have a filter which can get clogged. Get two opinions and shop around for the best price. Hope this helps!
