Hey guys is there a reason theres the c1500 starter has 1 bolt near flywheel and one back near block ,Ihave a three bolt pattern,Parts store gave me a corvett starter with both holes near flywheel it looks the same , to try but just won"t fit any Ideas on a replacement starter? Back bolt is the one thats broken off ,(92 c1500 )anyone know why threre are 3 holes?
Answers:
Use a sharp point punch, tap the broken bolt in a counter clockwise direction around the outer edges of the bolt being careful to not knock dents in the block. All you are doing is trying to get the bolt to break lose if its bottomed out in the hole. This is a hardened bolt, and drilling it is near impossible, so if you can get it to turn just a very little, then you can use a nut to weld on the end of the bolt. I have tapped on a bolt like that until I got it out by turning it a tiny bit at a time until I could get some vise grips on the bolt. You must be careful to not knock dents in the block that will stake the bolt in there. You can use a different bolt pattern starter, but you may have to shim the starter until it works ok. One other thing you can do is; use a small grinder to grind a slot in the bolt for a screwdriver. It won't hurt the block if you get a slot in it too, as long as you smooth it back out where the starter will sit level.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!
