Question:
Hello, I wonder if you can help me our here, my fiancée has a 325i automatic transmission; I want to know what’s the purpose for the M and A buttons in the left side of the gear stick.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
Answers:
The A is for automatic mode where the transmission shifts itself, like most automatics. You can put it in automatic mode by moving the stick to the right.
what would you choose a saturn or a chrysler?
For most driving, just leave it in A. For high performance driving, you can switch it to M and shift through the gears kinda like a manual transmission. Once you select a gear in M, it will stay in that gear unless you shift it manually up or down.
How much do you have to bore and stroke a 454 to get a 502?
ccrider77 gave you a pretty accurate answer but there is a third option to the automatic transmission on the 325i and that is the sport mode. Like with the M mode, you slide the shifter to the left for S mode, but you don't need to move the shifter to change gears, it just holds the gear a little longer giving you a higher RPM when it shifts to the next gear and downshifts harder when braking or decellerating. It's indicated by an S on the dash as opposed to an M in manual mode or a D in automatic. It actually makes the car more fun to drive but you use more gas.COOL..I guess your "Baby" can be "MANUAL" and "AUTOMATIC"...just with the RIGHT TOOLS, my man! ;-)
or it could stand for "Miles" and "Angle"..who knows...but NICE car by the way....=)
I have a 325 as well..it's an autostick...
you can have the fun of a stick without the clutch..
or the convenience of an automatic..
Why don't they make a separate category for CAMARO?!?
I have the SUV too..the X5..it has the same feature..really nice...
