If you're talking about the Classic 900 (1979-1993), I would strongly recommend not going any where near an automatic. The manual trans cars are capable of accelerating decently, but beware of higher mileage cars without getting someone experienced in Saabs to check it for problem spots. Depending on the year, a lot of 900S cars are pretty well equipped option wise - post 1988 it is not uncommon for the S to have to leather, power windows and door locks, sunroof - basically everything but a turbo and power seats. If properly maintained, they'll last quite a while - my last had 232,000 miles on it when it impacted with a deer at 55MPH. And it was still drivable afterwards. Also, be aware that many independent shops fear the older 900 and will either not work on them, or charge you inflated labor to gently hint that you should take it elsewhere.
Is there a place online that I could find out where the rear shock tower is on my 05 Honda civic lx?
If you're referring to the New Generation 900 (1994-1998), I would suggest you keep looking. While Saab-badged, they are essentially Opels, and the build quality leaves something to be desired. In addition, maintenance costs compared to value of the car are exorbitant. They don't perform any where near exthusiastically, even with the manual transmission, and the '94-'97 models had a cable operated clutch that feels hinky even when adjusted properly. Early cars had suspension geometry issues. They're all - at this age - prone to failure of radio, information display, and fuel pump - with the pump clocking in at over five hundred dollars and large labor, as the fuel tank must be lowered from the car to replace.
I suppose if you found one with a decent maintenance history and lower mileage, it would be worth getting into. Personally, I would not choose one if I did not currently work for a Saab dealership.
