Have you got the right key for the car?
It maybe that there is nothing wrong with the key and the vehicles main battery is flat.
If your car is 1999 or newer and has full M.B service history you should phone the M.B 24hr breakdown number.

He can still open the car door even if the remote key is dead. Slide the metal blade key out of the end of the remote, there is a standard lock "key Hole" on the drivers door handle. Manually unlock the door lock and open the door. If the car alarm sounds, which it will if the car battery is good, simply put the key in the ignition as if you were starting the car and turn it. The car will regonize the key and shut off the alarm. If the car battery is good, the car will start and you can drive the car to the dealer and have the remote battery replaced.
