Well, lets see if it is just tha cable first. The speedo is driven by the front wheel. If you pull off the hubcap you will see in the very centre of the wheel a little squarish knob about 1/8 x 1/8" held in place by a clip. Slide the clip sideways(you need a screwdriver to force it out) and then you can take off the centre dust cap where the knob is in the centre of. As you evenly pull off the cap, the square knob will disappear into the square hole - . The cap covers the grease that lubricates the wheel bearing. That sqare knob is the drive part of the speedo cable. What I do here is really inspect the square wire end and the square hole - are they square or does one rotate inside the other? You know, a round peg in a square hole does not have to turn with the hole.
Now pull lightly on that cable. Does more of it come out? Does it come out. It shouldn't. Does it come out and the other end is an unwound coil spring piece of wire? That is broken.
The other end is behind the speedometer. You have to undo the nut which holds the cable to the speedo. Can do the job with your fingers. The whole black cable housing is pulled from the car. And the whole cable is the part you replace.
That is the easy lucky way.
The other way is to remove the speedometer from the dashboard. You could buy a new one from the dealer, or you could also go to an auto salvage yard and try to score one there...and reinstall the same way you uninstalled it.
