Question:
I have put a 1996 Ford 460 motor & E4OD transmission with a 60 pin PCM in my motor home. Because of a space limitation I had to remove the tail shaft and bolt the transmission directly to the differential. This caused the loss of the Ford 20 tooth (VSS p/n E9LF-9E731-AA) and a Datcon magnetic (VSS p/n 71256-00) was installed in the differential..
There is a harsh shifting between first and second gear and the transmission control indicator lamp flashes. Is there a way to modify or reprogram the PCM to accept the magnetic vehicle speed sensor?

Dealer can't program for it either... All a dealer can do is program with what Ford sends to them (and that's with EEC V) your's is a EEC IV based truck. How do i fix my timing on my audi 100se?
See if you can get a differential ring and speed sensor for the differential if it isn't there already.. Some of the PCMs fed off the differential speed sensor but I'm unsure on yours...
If not, you are looking at asking some tuners if they can modify the magnetic pulse signal being fed to the PCM (as the signal is not digital as a magnetic one would possibly be but more of a a/c current.. 4x4 people have things to modify the signals for the speedo that may help, if not some ideas may be found from tuners that install different engines and trans combos into other vehicles (try one of the sport trucking magazines like Truckin' for ideas) .. other than that, you are kind of out of luck unfortuneately...
