1995 escort idle problem?

Question:
the car has 200,000 miles on it in good running condition, but recently the car began iddling irradicly. it is a manual transmission and when i have the car in nuetral or am on the clutch it revs to about 2k rpm and lowers to .5k rpm. it doesnt stall, but it is annoying. when the car is driving the problem is non-existant. anyone had a similar problem with the 1.9L escort? which sensor?

I would have to say that it's is an oxygen sensor! I have had three cars that have done this and all three times it was the oxygen sensor. I know what you mean by saying that it is annoying. It will do this until you fix them so good luck
