I'm looking to upgrade from 16'' factory wheels to 20'' wheels on a 2001 mercedes s430?
First of all this car doesn't have a cable, its an electronic speedo. You might be able to find a place to fix it but it won't be cheap, you could get one from dodge...again NOT cheap. Its against the law for a junk yard to sell one, because then everyone would be changing them out to lie about the mileage. I would say take it to a shop if you must have it, if not then I would just go without it. You might be able to find an aftermarket replacement for much much cheaper.is a maxima a full size sedan?
is the odometer still working?if it isnt then when you go to sell the car you can say "low miles"
you cvan remove it and take it to a speedometer shop and they can fix it
or get another from a junkyard
you should be able to see if it is the speedo or the cable that is busted, by attaching a power drill to the cable and spinning it and see if the gauge reacts.
Well oh-my-goodness!! Another Neon owner with the exact same problem I had! Mine was a '96 too!! Black to be exact!! Anyways, I had this problem and my fiance took the car to his automotive school he was attending and had his teacher work through it with him. On the inside of the dash there is a male-female type of board, with Neon's, the older they get, from the bouncing around and whatnot, they loosen. They can be tightened once or twice, but it will still happen because, I hate to break it to you, and I hated to hear it myself, but Neon's are disposable, cheapo cars. The parts are cheap and dont last as long as they should. If you want to fix it, your only option is to take apart the entire dashboard, buy the new piece and replace it. Mine was doing it for MONTHS by the time I gave up on it!!
