car is 1991 mercedes 350sdl turbo diesel.
Exactly how much money will it take to fill up my gas tank?
This doesn't happen often, maybe about once every few weeks or so. Its happen 4 times since I got the car about 2 months ago.
The car engine will shut off but the radio stays on. This leads me to believe it is not a battery problem. People have told me idle speed is too low - but mine idles at 600/700 rpm - which should be fine.
These are the possibilities I believe are more likely:

1) It doesn't have a carbutator. It's direct fuel injected.What kind of transmission fluid does my 1991 mustang take?
2) If you had a problem with a fuel filter being plugged, fuel pump giong out, or injector pump going out it would run poorly at higher engine speeds/loads do to the need for more fuel.
3) If you had water in the fuel, it would have a hard time running right after starting as water settles to the bottom and gets sucked up first at startup.

It's possible that your fuel filter gasket is allowing it so suck air and cause the injector pump to cavitate. (not pump fuel)

One thing that comes to mind is the O2 sensor. Oxygen sensor that is. We have a problem with this in our Pathfinder. That is most likely the most expensive repair. We have not gotten ours done yet. Just so you know do it yourself carb cleaners are not actually that great for your vehicle. Why, i cant remember. Just call around and get quotes from different places for any parts you need and their labour charge per hour, etc. Hope you solve your problem with out having to empty your pocket book.
