Is a Toyota Corolla RWD or AWD?
i have a 2003 Jetta and have had very few problems with my car. no major failures or breakdowns. my car has near 100,000 miles and has never once been on a towtruck. and i'm not the most gentle driver out there believe me.lets make something clear, Volkswagen has been one of the best selling vehicles around for many years, so there are many more VWs on the road than other vehicles. since there are so many out there, the instances of reported problems are going to be higher. the people like the person above me love to scream and yell about how unreliable Volkswagens are, but in all reality, i doubt they even own or have owned a VW, the Jetta i have now, is my 3rd. none of them broke down...one was put into storage because it's a rare car and i wanted to keep it nice, the other was rear ended and damaged badly.
with that being said, a car is a machine, and machines sometimes break. your chances of having a broken machine are less if you perform proper maintanince and treat your machine right.
Can i bolt my intake straight to the throtle body?
the 2.0l four cylinder is a good engine. what it lacks in power, it makes up for in reliability. the 1.8 4 cylinder turbo is a very nice engine that is highly tunable for minimal investment. the 2.8l VR6 (what i have) is a great engine, lots of power and great reliability. the 1.9l tdi is amazing, quiet, lots of power and 50mpg!
dont listen to the naysayers, some people always want to rain on your parade. check out www.vwvortex.com there is lots of info there in the forums.

DONT DO IT. They are HORRIBLE cars. from 99-2005 the top 3 consumer watch dogs rated them at the BOTTOM of reliability. "MUCH WORSE THEN AVERAGE". (consumer affairs, consumer reports, jd powerout of 49 cars tested, they were 48... the new beetle was 49.. the new jetta was 47 (consumer reports)
out of 39 cars tested, they were number 37, 39 was the new beetle (Jd Power)

It is true that VWs are expensive to maintain. However, they do hold their resale value quite well. In addition, they do pretty well in the crash tests. I thought it was gas thrifty, yet logically built vehicle. The engine is a touch weak with the 2.0L engine, but reliable. The repair costs are a little high, but it's a solid car overall.
