The on board computer is designed to let you know when there is a malfunction. This could be serious, and should be analyzed by a qualified technician. Some things you can do: Listen to the motor. Does it start and run OK. Check the fluids. Look for broken or frayed wires. Check electrical connections. Are they fastened securely, or corroded. WARNING: Turn off the engine. The cooling fan and belt can take off a finger. I suggest a reputable repair shop.
2000 Silverado hesitates to start?
While recomended you don't have to go to a service station to have your Check Engine Light code pulled from the computer. Many auto parts stores such as autozone or advanced auto do offer free OBD-II code reading. If your car is a 1996 or later model vehicle it will be a OBD-II compliant vehicle. I'd have them scan the code and see what the computer is indicating before spending $20-$50 for a dealer or shop to scan it.More Questions & Answers ...
