Question:
My truck is losing over 1 qt. of oil between changes where previously it hadn't lost a drop. There are no visible oil leaks on the engine and no oil in the coolant. The only leak is on the rear seal of the transmission. Can the engine leak oil into the transmission causing it to leak? Sounds odd to me, but I don't see another explanation.

Where is the 02 sensor located on the 2001 ford taurus??
sounds like the old plenum gasket leak in the intake manifold. Are you getting pinging when the motor is under load?oh and don't get the dealer replacement plenum gasket it will just blow out again like mine did. go with the m1 intake or the aluminum billet belly pan. It blows because the intake is made of aluminum and the pan is made of steel, they warp when they get hot and they leak. STUPID DESIGN

If it is not leaking that oil it must be burning it. A quart of oil in an oil change would certainly leave wet spots somewhere.no,thair is no posable way the the engine oil can feed back threw the tranmission,as if the rear seal for the motor was bad, then u would notice oil driping,,r drops comeing from between whair the trans meets the engine,it maybe geting a few miles on it,,possably be burning just a little, but try useing some cardboard, park it on some cardboard just to make sure.as 1 quart is no much every 2500 miles.its sure not enough to make it flop e-check.,also,if it is the rear main seal leaking,,,some will only do that when they r runing.
Does anyone have a Mazda 3? If so, what year, and is it a good car?
If you use the normal 3000 mile interval, there is nothing to worry about. If it is not leaking on the ground, it is burning it. Modern ashless oils won't smoke out the tailpipe until you are burning a quart in 100 miles. As I have answered this before..

This is an easy one! It's the notorious intake plenum gasket.. undernieth the intake manifold, there is a belly pan that has a gasket that gets sucked in or blown out..then the motor sucks oil and vapors from the engine and burns it. Pretty much gauranteed it is this. Your gonna need intake set, belly pan gasket, heater tube o-ring, coolant, t-stat gasket( and t-stat while you are there),a little bit of black silicone, and possibly some other things depending on their shape..throttle body to air horn gasket, upper radiator hose...etc..
Also, engine oil cannot leak "into" the transmission.
To check the plenum gasket for a leak you need to remove the pcv valve from the valve cover and remove the crankcase vent hose from the air cleaner housing. start the engine ( STAY AWAY FROM THE BELT) with one hand cover the hole in the valve cover that the pcv was in and with the other hand cover the end of the crankcase breather hose that you disconnected from the air cleaner if you feel a vacuum on your hand then the plenum gasket is leaking (for a small leak you might need to leave your hand there for a few seconds) if you remove one hand and you feel pressure then the plenum gasket is ok I'm assuming this is a 5.2L or 5.9L get your parts from the dealer they have a revised plenum gasket that is metal and replace the bolts also they have a sealant on them to keep them from backing off and falling into your eng
