Question:
My s4 is in the shop more than I drive it. I have the chance to get the A4 but not sure what would be the better choice. I havnt heard that the A4 has had many problems. Does anyone who has had this car or have heard anything about it have any advice??

The A4 1.8T will be a little more reliable. But that engine is the one with the sludge problem if synthetic oil isn't used. The A4 is decent only if the previous owner maintained it properly and used only synthetic 5W40 oil. Otherwise, it will be in the shop all the time also. I would keep the S4 unless you bought it used and it's in bad shape. Otherwise I would upgrade to the A4 only if a mechanic examines it and says it's okay. But I would rather have a BMW 3-series or a 2005 Volvo S40 T5. Audis aren't reliable, I'm sorry to say. You can't have both performance and reliability. You need to choose one over the other. The simpler the car, the more reliable and easier to fix.I have a 99' Cadillac Deville, Would 23 Inch Rims Fit With No Hassle?
well fix the s4 and keep it, theyre hella quickNissan 300zx electrical problem?
To be honest with you, neither one will be as reliable as a Honda or Toyota, but am quite sure those cars do not tickle your fancy. the s4 and a4 are great driving cars but not reliable cars. Check out www.edmunds.com. They have a host of info on all years of a4 and s4 productions, as well as an Audi forum, which could be quite valuable to you.'94 Toyota Celica GT engine change?
It's not your personal bad luck - you share it with every audi (or vw) owner even though most of them will deny it.Will hockey gear fit into the trunk of an early model miata?
being an audi technician, i would say go with the A4. it is a solid reliable car. the 1.8t is a very good engine with few problems (unless it is modified). i see very few major problems with newer model A4s, definitely a good choice.Th acuator on my 1995 lincoln town car has to be replaced is this unusal and how costly can it be?
I am personally in love with the Audi S4. It is sexy. The S4 is twin turbo six speed. I'd take it in a heartbeat.I have an Audi S4 and it is the best car I have ever owned, the thing with the S4 is if you don't maintain it, then yes it will be in the shop, mine is maintained well and I have not had to bring it to the shop. If you want a fast sports car, stick with the S4, if you want a slower less sporty car then go with the A4. Since you have already experienced the S4, don't you think you would be dissapointed when you downgrade to the A4?
Is a K&N cold air intake worth it for my car?
the problems w/ my s4 have been minimal and general maintenance is all i have to do. Mine has many mods and over 100k miles and drives perfect. i convinced my mother to get a b6 a4 though, it gets better gas mileage and she doesn't need to drive like me. she still has a APR chip and loves it. if you are an enthusiast than get the s4, if you want a slightly more reliable commuter car get the a4, and you can mod it of course. but i can't ever tell anyone that a s4 is a bad car in any respectWhere can i get a sat-nav cd for alfa 147?

a4 = meh ,ok for a daily driver
(i have a 2001 s4 stage 3 - ASP 500hp ;) a car that could replace it would cost from 50-60k up .. like a used 993TT
and i had a bunch of problems with it replaced ko3 turbos with ko4-s (blown ko3-s) then i rebuilt the ko4-s (almost blown too) and redid the whole motor (all gaskets and new heads - bc on an internal coolant leak - unfortunate common problem lately )
all this being said but i would NEVER EVER replace it ;))
i'd get an a4 as a daily driver tho' (a b7 2.0T ;)
