Can a stopped up catylatic converter stop a 1996 dodge 1500 from firing?

Question:
it will fire yellow but not blue like it should.it will crank but will not run.changed computer,crank shaft sensor, temp. sensor,map sensor, and coil. HELP PLEASE

A plugged cat won't change the color of the spark... that said.. if it won't start because of a plugged cat.. try un-bolting the exhaust on both sides on the manifolds to "open up exhaust" and see if it starts then.. Have you checked fuel pressure??

the cat does not have anything to do with the color of the spark. if you have a weak spark, try new plugs, new connections, new ignition.

yes the cat will stop you cold.to get any idea of what the engine is feeling like,put some duct tape over your mouth an nostrils,then try to exhale.go down to the autoparts store and buy a replacement catalytic convertor.the spark you mentioned is from a weak coil,since you replaced that it should return to normal once the cat is replaced.the computer knows that the cat is clogged an has reduced voltage through the ignition system to prevent the engine from becoming damaged.odds are your old stuff was fine,just your cat was bad.
