What is the difference between a road, a street, an avenue and a lane?

Question:

Answers:

what is the better way of controlling overgrowing traffic?

I am from the country and here a lane would be considered a narrow passage between two houses or such. A street would be the main way for lanes or alleys. An avenue is a wide street. A road is simply a passage between two distant points. But if you are in the city it may differ. ( Interstates with odd numbers such as I-75 run north and south. Interstates with even numbers such as I-20 run east and west.)
