I looked into that when I emigrated. a 1m x 1m cube on a container ship would have cost me about 129 UK Pounds five years ago. As it didn't quite fit my golf clubs and I could manage without the other stuff I left it with my parents. I'm going back in a couple of weeks with an empty suitcase to pick some stuff up.

There are several disadvantages to this:
1. You have to wait weeks for your stuff UK to USA is six weeks or so.
2. You have to get it to port and from port. Whether you do that by Fedex or go and pick it up is your choice. You may actually find that it is just as cheap to send it UPS or Fedex.

How do they choose the shut off times for highway on-ramp traffic signals?
