To answer the question directly, gas prices haven't really gone up. They have fluctuated by a few cents a gallon recently, somewhere on the order of 2-3 percent. This is nothing more than the normal market price variance caused by anything from the start of cold weather, which increases demand for heating oil, to the fact that anytime some crackpot dictator threatens to cut supplies the price will see a small bounce.
If you really want to see high prices, wait till the Dems start increasing taxes. Three dollars a gallon is in the very near future.
