Upset about good traffic?

Question:
Why do people get upset when you complement their city on having good traffic or little traffic?
its like you are putting them down.
I was in san fran for about a week. and the traffic was amazing compaired to chicago. and I would tell everyone that.
and they looked angry or something.
like if they did not have bad traffic its a bad thing.
are people crazy or what?

You took away something that bound them together in misery! Everyone complains about traffic, and it's kind of a badge of honor to have traffic everyone else recognizes as horrible. It's like when you tell someone you hit your thumb with a hammer and it hurt like crazy, and they tell you that it's not all that painful and instead of feeling better you get mad that they don't recognize and appreciate your misery.
