In Texas they don't. You are in the right lane except to pass. If you drive in the left lane you will be stopped and ticketed. In Oklahoma we just say "Well, bless their hearts" and ignore it. What do they do in your state?What do you think a good price for gas should be nowadays?
I haven't a clue. That is an issue with me also. Don't these people know you are not supposed to drive in the passing lane? I have found some do it to aggravate others. You flash you lights as a gesture for them to change to the driving lane and they end up slamming on their brakes. I detest driving anymore. Because they are idiots. The left lane is the passing lane, and if you are not passing, you should get the hell out of the way!!! In some states there are laws that you can get a ticket for driving in the left lane and impeding traffic, but I never have known of them being enforced. I would patrol and write tickets free of charge if they'd let me! Even pay for my own gas.I think it would be a good investment!Why do people in virginia suck at driving?

I have lived in many places, the worse when it comes to this issue is Illinois (Chicagoland area). There is an alleged law in Illinois to issue citations to those in the left lane who are not passing. Unfortunately it is not enforced, Illinois only had 46 of this citations issued in a one year period, compare to over 50K citations for speeding. It is very simple, it is easier to prove speeding in court, than it is a left lane violation.Do mums drive their kids 300 yards to school in 4X4 sherman tanks just to annoy enviromentalists?
The biggest issue is training, most states don't care about having safe, alert, and skill drivers. States only care to make money issuing driver licenses.
I agree with some of the other posters, people are not paying attention to his surroundings at all, too busy on the phone, eating,etc....
I had the great fortune to drive in Germany, Switzerland, and other European countries, it was a delight to be able to get on the left lane and not have to flash your lights, or make any maneuvers to get around traffic. I am not sure what the qualifications are for getting a license in these countries, but some of the locals informed me that it takes alot of money, and lots of training to get a license. This means that people consider driving a privilege.

People piss me off. I can't stand people that don't know how to drive.and now u see why some bikers will lane split....legal or not. in ny state, they have signs on the thruway...keep right except to pass. i belive they also have this in pa. in ohio it may not be explicitly signed, but common sense dictates that slower traffic stays to the right. that's the problem....today's drivers have no common sense.
