Does it make sense to buy cheaper gas if u have to drive farther? $=votes. Why tell the market we'll pay more?

Question:
Volume is a simple retail concept. Often, you can sell more of something if you lower the price and usually make more money in the long run. This is the idea that made Wal-Mart so successful. So in the long run, wouldn't the retail gasoline industry see incentive to lower prices if people always bought the cheapest gas they could find, even if it meant driving farther? People aren't going to stop driving, and many drive the same amount regardless of the cost of gas (abliet they complain more). But if everyone bought the cheapest gas all the time I think prices at the pump would decrease some as companies tried to compete with one another. Of course, there are many other factors that determine the price of gas, but do you agree that this principle could work to some small degree, if everyone practiced it? I only ask because of a recent article on Yahoo, denouncing driving farther to save a few cents on gas as a "whaste of money". Only in the short run, I say.

Geting my drivers permit need some tips?

To me it's the principle of the thing. I want to reward the guy for having the cheapest price. I don't CARE that I'm using a little more gas in the process.

It makes more sense to have the gas you buy burn more efficiently producing more horsepower and better mileage.

Merging Traffic Question?

There was a marketing specialist, nationally respected, on Good Morning America that made a great point. He said that if we would all cut back on our gas just ten miles each...the gas prices would, by necessity, come down. I find that a far more progressive idea than gas-fasting or searching out the cheaper guy. It's just too bad we can't all get together and do it.

Is there any bus service that has deals to foxwood via the ferry?so far i've only seen one from orient point

No, because you use up your gas savings driving to the farther location & back and often cheap gas means lower quality gas. Also, if you've ever suffered the effects of bad gas in your car, you will be extra careful where you buy gas. Cheap isn't always better.

About how far away is Piscataway from Old Bridge?

It makes sense. Of course it could backfire and the other companies raise gas prices. The gas companies are very finicky people. The slightest little things can made gas prices jump 20 cents in a day, so you never really know. I personally think we should be getting some free oil from iraq seeings how we spent billions of tax payers dollars on freeing them, its the least they could do.

How do I get to canal street shopping district?

The basic concept of volume at lower prices = more money in the long run, MAY be true, BUT.. Wal-Mart (and similar merchants) sell a multitude of items, whereas gas stations sell one one- gas. So obviously, if they are in cahoots to price fix at a higher price, there is not incentive to lower their price, since as you say, people don't drive less unless they really really have to. And to drive 15 miles or a half hour to save .05 a gallon is not worth my time, or the gas it takes to get there. So the price difference would need to be really significant to make me go out of my way to shop at a particular station that isn't near someplace I normally go.

Who has been affected by the contaminated fuel?

Yes, but that would erode the record profits that the gas companies are trying to continue year after year. Remember, it's still a business, and businesses tailor more to investors than consumers, especially when there will always be a demand. If everyone stopped driving, prices would fall...and I dont mean for a day, just to fill up the next, that just evens itself out.I mean for good.but thats not practical in todays society. When you introduce the add on that costs $500 and triples any cars gas milage (and let it out for free so you dont get shot to keep it to yourself) then you will see prices change, although maybe even higher to make up for profits. And then there is the "IT" theory if any of you watch south park.

How many traffic tickets have you got so far?

Well in order for your car to perform well, you need to have the proper gasoline that is suited for it. If you have a high octane required car then that should be the only thing going into your gas tank, When you really look at the matter of buying cheaper gas, you have to put into consideration the fact that while your cheaper gas can save u some $$ in your wallet, inside your car there will accumilate alot of deposit around your pistons. If the car has an over all evaluation done, it will show that cheaper gas can cause harm to your engine even inside your fuel injectors or your piston rings themselves. So if you trave far distances, ask yourself if it is worth saving a few dollars over slowly deteriate your engine.

So, just using logic and math - no it is not a good deal... you're not saving anything.. you're spending more money... and this does NOT include any of the other expenses involved in driving your car - i.e. wear and tear, etc., and the time it takes you to drive those 10 miles.
